How to Buy a Great Web Site

by Blanche Evans
Realty Times (11/05/03)

Several factors are important for Realtors when considering how to purchase an effective Web site, writes Blanche Evans, including the fact that only a few sellers of real estate sites now operate. Important questions to ask a site vendor include its site creation and hosting fees, whether or not the agent would be registered as the owner of the domain name for the site, what lead capture tools are available, and what kind of customer support the company offers.

Evans recommends potential buyers understand that sites are "passive tools" in that customers use them to connect with real estate services rather than the other way around. "The passive Web site is a great way to capture those customers who would not have found you any other way than online," Evans asserts.

Additionally, given that site providers use business plans in developing sites, selection of a company that sells sites should include an evaluation of how the company sees itself in the site selling market.
